Signs After a Blow
- Shingles lying in the yard or the street. Count them.
- A crease across a row of shingles, where they were lifted and folded back. They may lie flat again and still be broken.
- Missing ridge cap, which leaves the top of the roof open.
- Pine limbs on the roof. Even a small one can crack shingles where it hit.
Tropical Wind
Hurricane season runs June through November. When Beryl came ashore on July 8, 2024, the weather service summary recorded gusts of 64 mph at Houston Executive Airport in Waller County and 81 mph at the Conroe airport, with trees down widely in both counties. Tomball sits between those two stations.

What the Contractor Checks
Whether lifted shingles have lost their seal, whether nails pulled through, whether the drip edge and ridge are intact, and whether a limb strike cracked the decking. Wind-creased shingles are usually replaced rather than glued down.
