A Farm Settlement First
The Handbook of Texas records P. W. Rose settling here before 1836 and German immigrants arriving from 1846, when Johann Heinrich Theisz bought 200 acres. The place was called the Spring Creek Community until 1892. Four German families founded Salem Lutheran Church in 1852. Farmers raised mostly cotton, and at one point the area had seven cotton gins.
Rosehill formed its own volunteer fire department in December 1963. A 2014 Community Impact profile found farms still selling vegetables to the public and an area that had turned from mostly agricultural to one with a growing list of businesses.
