Hail and Heat
Metal does not lose granules, but it does dent. Large hail can leave a panel dimpled without letting water in; whether that matters to you is a question of looks and of your policy terms, which only your insurer can answer.
In summer, a light-colored or reflective finish keeps more heat out of the attic. Ask about the paint system and its fade warranty, not just the metal gauge.
Over the Old Roof?
Some metal systems can go over one layer of shingles. Others need a full tear-off. The contractor should say which and why, and whether the city permit covers it. See permits.
