Why They Rot
An overflowing gutter pours water down the back of the fascia every rain. Under pines, which shade many Tomball lots, that is common. The fascia softens, the gutter spikes lose their grip, and the soffit behind it stains and sags.
Painted wood soffits also fail from the underside in humidity, and a gap of a few inches is enough for squirrels, birds or wasps.
What the Repair Involves

Take down the gutter
It has to come off to replace the board it hangs on.

Replace soft wood
Fascia and any rafter tails that have rotted behind it.

Soffit
Replace with vented soffit where the attic needs intake air.

Wrap or paint
Aluminum fascia wrap or a good paint system on the new wood.

Rehang the gutter
With hidden hangers into sound wood, and a guard if needles are the problem.
Ventilation
Soffit vents are where the attic draws in air. If they are painted shut or blocked by insulation, a ridge vent has nothing to pull through, and the attic stays hot. Ask the contractor to check both ends.
